Artist's Statement

I love making monotype prints.Using oil-based inks and a whelan etching press, I print on the best quality handmade paper I can afford. Printmaking is certainly one of the messiest art techniques.
Most times the set up and clean up takes longer than making the actual image. One image can usually be completed in less than a day; it's inticing to set a print aside and go back into it weeks or months later.

I like to come to a printmaking session without preconcieved ideas of what I'm going to paint, in order to allow the "unknown" or the muse" to have a strong voice in my work. I find that the more I'm capable of relinquishing control over the image, the more I learn, and the more happy, surprised, intrigued, disturbed and engaged I am with whatever results.
