       Method Statement

My process for making monotypes usually begins by rolling up a plexi plate with a solid layer of etching ink. I remove the ink with rags and tools, pulling the lights out of the dark ground to create the image. I work back and forth, subtracting and selectively adding in details and tones until I am satisfied with the image. The finished print is often made in just one pass through the etching press onto dampened paper. I use many variations on this basic subtractive (or reductive) method and sometimes build an image by layering. I have recently been making viscosity monotypes using the Akua-Kolor water based monotype and intaglio inks.
