       Artist Statement

Maintaining an imaginative approach in the creativity of my art, is what is on the burner, so to speak, which finalized into abstract media at this time. The cause and effect of motivation is an excitement to be fulfilled by moments of creativity or stimuli for self expression. If this is worked out and I'm not satisfied with the results, I will overprint. This changes the picture and hopefully creates new frontiers, or I'll put these pieces away, and deal with them later on in the game.

The colors are picked out to coincide with the movement of thought. Sometimes these color schemes are worked with for months at a time, or more. This makes the artwork compatible with other pieces using the same color scheme coordination. The background colors are rolled up on the plate, the technique is eliminating areas of inks with palette knife to create depth, dimension and texture, etc. The critique of this negative value can make the overall work more interesting. These expressions are played out until the interest in the subject matter has fully been expressed. That goes pretty much with anything that holds my interest, then the next option will emerge and the scenario goes on from there. To tire from the abstract scene and create a piece of reality comes now and then, also. "To express what the moment brings," would be the logical motive here.

       Biographical Information

Carol Hiltz Chisholm was born in Norwood, Massachusetts, basically she started out a colorist, painting landscapes and printmaking 1987. Prior to this, painting with oils for a number of years as a hobby. After watercolor, her interest in art increased and graduated to monotypes, monoprints - collage & pastel. Creating prints by eliminating paint with palette knife and other paraphernalia to incorporate lighter colors and hues formed by relief areas and then adding texture, etc. The critique of this negative value, makes the overall work more interesting. Exploring with oil block printing inks for the last fifteen years at Fuller Museum of Art.

Her winding artistic journey has taken many forms of self expression, including poetry and computer art. Because of her generous spirit, she has allowed many of her creations to be donated to worthy causes. Her prints have circulated as far as Maine to North Carolina, Nevada and Georgia.
