       Artist Statement

Whether I work in Watercolor, Monotype Print, Ceramic Vessel or Fused Glass Jewelry. I find fundamentally it is always the creative process that excites and fulfills me.

Monotype printmaking allows me to explore unlimited creativity that no other technique has for me. I try to use movement of form and color in developing my image on the plate. The finished print can have an amazing result that for me is a big part of the appeal of this form of printmaking.

I use oil paint or watercolor for my monotype using an etching press. Some of these prints are done in a technique called “Line Transfer Drawing” which is done by drawing through rice paper onto the plate. You then print the altered plate and the result is two prints that are similar but, very different, one being the drawing and the other being the print from the (drawn on) plate.

Another technique is the “paper stencil” technique in which paper is cut or torn then, colored. These papers are arranged on a plate and printed. The result is a series of prints that are individual but, have similar qualities. As you continue to print the same papers, the paint is drawn out with each run through the press and each print becomes more subtle in color and texture. Then as you shift the positioning of the papers you find wonderful changes in composition and design.
