Painting is a physical act first and foremost. Intellectual concerns are born from the actual process of manipulating the medium. Formal elements such as line, color, design are addressed
and re-established as the work progresses. In a way it is an organic process. Motion is central to Bennett’s work. The concept of movement came out of the medium itself and its metaphorical implications touch on the universal and the personal. Activity in the imagery is essential.
Bennett discovered that the medium of monotype lends itself to spontaneity and an intuitive approach to art making.
